We’re really lucky to live where we do. There’s some fantastic walks in the beautiful scenic countryside. We’re perfectly located on the East Leicestershire boarder so close to the famous Rutland Water – Europe’s largest man-made reservoir, 5 miles long and covering over 3000 acres it’s a hit with anyone wanting to spend a bit of time outdoors.
There’s a whole array of activities – sailing, biking (rental too) running, walking and paddle boarding to name a few. And even though the county of Rutland is landlocked there’s a beach there too!
The Rutland Belle is a great trip across the water and an opportunity to take in the fabulous scenery. The Belle has been known to do a Gin cruise too on selected evenings. Boats run every day between the months of May – September (Limited service in April and October) www.rutlandwatercruises.com.
Nature features heavily around the area and in particular bird watching – with two reserves around the reservoir – Egleton and Lyndon. Each year there’s an International Bird fair too Rutland Water Nature Reserve | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust (lrwt.org.uk)
If food is your thing then the reservoir is surrounded by some fabulous places to eat that fit into every budget. Hambleton Hall, The Finches Arms and the Horse and Jockey. Further afield you’re spoilt for choice with some great eateries nearby.
